Rubber - "Rubber"
reviewed by Joe
Not enough Funky, Rockin' bands out there for you? Look no further than Lawrence, Kansas homeboys Rubber. Chock full of funk, fun, rock and awesome production courtesy of guitar/vocalist Robert Rebeck, chief justice of Mercy Recording Studios. From riff one, this 17 (gasp!) track release bristles with clever arrangements and chunky/glassy guitar juxtapositions. Truly there is something for everyone on this disc: 70's funk, groovy riffs, power chords and crystal clear vocals.
There is no dull trip here, and I caught influences ranging from .38 special to Alice in Chains without ever dropping the groove. A stone groove, man. Tight, energetic and full of thick slabby bass and chunky guitars.
