Julia Surrendered
Sweet Little Superstar
review by Joe

Infectious pop/punk grooves, laced with clear, up-front vocals and the prerequisite backing harmonies; it's plain to see that JS are ready to take on the rest of musicdom armed with this 3 song smoking gun. I'd be surprised if this doesn't generate considerable interest from major league record labels. Lawrence has upped the ante in it's bid to become the next hotbed of sound for the "alternative scene".

Julia Surrendered are veterans of the scene - their bio sheet reads like a who's who of local bands, and like veterans of the scene, JS deliver Sweet Little Superstar with a one-two bubblegum punch. That's not to say its a fluff disc or easily dismissed as mindless radio fodder, there are serious songwriting skills at work here. Having seen JS live numerous times, i can say that this disc effectively showcases their energy and appetite for having a blast on stage.

Produced by Trent Bell, who has worked alongside Butch Vig (Smashing Pumpkins, Garbage, Nirvana) and engineered by Ken Paulakovich (the Offspring's "Smash" album), the production is crystal clear. Considering it was recorded at Chapman Studios, it sounds every bit major league. The days of muddy basement tapes are over for Kansas City - Sweet Little Superstar is the next in line of great sounding local discs ready to mobilize across the charts. Totally addictive....you'll be singing this one in the shower.
