Hissy Fit Show Review The Bottleneck on Saturday, August 16th
review by Jay Bredwell

As many bands have found, it is incredibly tough to meld pop and edge-rock without slipping into lame. Hissy Fit from Wichita has always been a band known for accomplishing this sound, while still remaining entertaining, in an effortless manor. At least this is what I expected, when I ran down to The Bottleneck on Saturday, August 16th, to catch their show. That is, I imagined HF would indeed pull this difficult sound fusion feat off, and create the pop-edge-rock noise without being, well,..... boring.

Now, maybe I was setting myself up, because I had some high preconceived notions, but HF came no where near the non-lame sound. They fell directly into the trap, that so many other bands do. This time around, they were a trio, and at past shows, I believe that they were a four piece. They also introduced a new drummer. Perhaps these two situations contributed to the bands troubles.

On the other hand, I heard some cool Ramones-like sounds that fueled some average upbeat songs. The majority of their songs started with the apt guitar before lead singer/guitarist Kim Czarnopys stepped to the mic with her pumped up, aggressive vocals. But, overall, the Hissy Fit performance was so-so, and I noted nothing that seemed to be ground-breaking.
