Grovel-Statically Yours A journey into the soul of neo-romance, battered and beaten along the way by thick layers of fuzz and distortion; its definitely a sweet pain, however. Singer Brad Hodgson has the uncanny knack of understating the emotion behind each of these gems. That understatement is one the of the things that will help you realize the importance of Grovel in the Kansas City scene, for they are not your typical "Kansas City" band. A far cry from the slacker fare that permeates the local circuit, Grovel are superstars in a pack of up and coming bands carrying the flag of heartfelt songwriting and musical experimentation. Each track on this 7 song self released CD is a miniepic in itself, with multiple changes and layers of ambient guitar noise comprising a cohesive look at the image of a man in love with woman, or just the idealistic purgatory within the mind's eye of a romantic daydreamer. Grovel comes from the soul, and this CD showcases the strong songwriting and musicianship of a group of guys who really mean what they say. Highlights of the disc: Heaven, Valentine, and Fetish Line, although every song is a winner. A small note on the production quality: seeing as this disc was handled by Ed Rose at Red House, you can expect it to be noisy and clear in all the right spots. Truly superb, especially in some really good headphones. Look for it all over the KC area, sporting a cover designed by Danielle and I here at the Zone!
