Exit 159 - "Lost On Earth"
reviewed by Joe
Sure there's hype about Frogpond. Inevitably, comparisons and criticisms are forthcoming when anyone speaks of the band, it's members and it's alumni. Exit 159 is the current resting place of Kristie Stremel, formerly of Frogpond, yet strangely enough this band has a fresher, more mature sound which I'm sure irritates KC's "chick-rock" sweehearts to no end. The strength of the music is based on it's youthfulness and upbeat rhythm, as well as a poignant and sometimes sweetly cynical outlook on the subject matter. The vigor of this band's convictions comes through on each and every song of this 7 track gem, with down to earth lyrics and solid rock and roll backbeats. I've had the pleasure of seeing Exit 159 live a few times, and the energy is intensified two fold from the CD, but what do you expect? Kansas City has always had a few great pop/rock/alt. bands around, and Exit 159 is a lovely addition to that lineage, but they'll never be lost in the crowd - simply because of the originality and love they put into their music.
If you want sing along songs to listen to in your car, rush out and pick this baby up right away, you won't be disappointed. Plus, there's a photo inside that we here at the Zone have treated!
