Confessing Sila - "Confessing Sila"
reviewed by Joe

In the age of aggro, drop d-tuning and distorted vocals, groups like Confessing Sila can seem out of place. Shimmering guitars and clear, heartfelt vocals define this release, although they can definitely rock at times as well. There is a definite thrust towards sensitivity and emotion present which can be considered pop sensibility at times and introspection at others. Some of the songs (particularly "jellyfish" and "should fall") sound like they'd fit nicely into a movie like "Can't Hardly Wait", "Sixteen Candles" or even something like "Reality Bites", not in a negative way. More so a nostalgic trip than anything.

It's every reviewer's job to communicate the sonic messages present in the materials they review, and the clearest message I can discern is one of pop-poetry with competent backing. I found myself thinking of bands like Jesus Jones or Ned's Atomic Dustbin while i listened, with some faint Cure and Doors references in the guitar work. Once again at a loss to adequately describe Confessing Sila, they are most definitely accessible by a wide range of music fans. There is no occlusion here, as you may see with bands like Season to Risk or Shiner.
