An interview with Aberdeen
by George Frazier of Julia Surrendered

Aberdeen is a self-admitted "British Invasion" band from Kansas City, Missouri. Cash, the singer, actually hails from Scotland or 'therebouts but gave it all up to live in a convent in Iowa. When that didn't pan out he moved to Kansas City, bought a bunch of recording equipment, and formed Aberdeen. This interview took place on November 13 (Friday the 13th) at the Liebrary in Emporia, Kansas. Aberdeen had just finished rocking the pocks off 14 soul-sutured Emporians:

George: Who are the members of Aberdeen?

Aberdeen: Cash is the singer, Steve plays drums, there is also Marc and Rock-n-roll Dave. Mike Roadie Aberdeen plays the van.

George: What famous bands have you been in Steve?

Steve: Blitzkreig Jesus and the Bastard Sons of Eddie Haskell. (I believe Steve said that Heidi Phillips, singer of Frog Pond, was in Blitzkreig Jesus). Blitzkreig was from Warrensburg.

George: What's happening in Warrensburg these days.

Steve: (sits with a confused look as "Paradise by the Dashboard Light" plays for the second time on the juke box).

George: Ah.... What was your best gig so far?

Aberdeen: Well our first gig was with Kill Creek and Pave the Rocket at the Hurricane on a Friday night. That was a pretty great show.

George: Didn't you play at Davey's and have all of your family members show up or something so that you could claim to have "packed the house."

Cash: That's a bunch of shit. We had about 6 relatives there and the other 200 were real Aberdeen brethren.

George: What about X-Aberdeenians, are there many?

Aberdeen: Well you know Shane, he moved to Iowa (Shane Dolbier erstwhile Pitch Weekly music columnist, erstwhile United Entertainment booking agent was Aberdeen's first bass player). We've had a string of guitarists ending here with Rock-n-roll Dave. And then there's the drummers.....

George: Have you guys been touring much, playing big festivals, or anything like that?

Cash: We were accepted to NorthXNortheast in Toronto the day before our old guitarist and drummer quit. So we couldn't make it.

George: What about upcoming shows, anything on the horizon?

Aberdeen: We're playing Saturday December 5th at the Hurricane and December 19 at Gee Coffee House.

George: This is a short interview, thanks for taking 1.5 minutes of your time to talk with us. Any plans for a release?

Aberdeen: We're finishing up tracking for the first Aberdeen full length in Cash's basement. We think we'll go to Red House and have Ed help us mix it and then send it off for mastering. Look for it this spring.
