The sounds of Jamaica have invaded Manhattan, and Ruskabank is leading the charge. Playing their distinct brand of ska, this eight-piece band is like no other in Manhattan. Guitarist David Spiker began playing with drummer David Darby and keyboardist Donnyves Laroque in fall 1995. Shortly thereafter, they added a 3-piece horn section and bassist Jayson Sullivan. Ruskabank has gone through two other horn players before settling on the current lineup of Dave Studnicka (trombone), Jamie Rogers (trumpet), and Ben Schierling (tenor saxophone).

They began practicing in the music room in the basement of Moore Hall at KSU, and still practice there weekly. The band throws all their diverse influences into one big pot and lets it simmer until the Ruskabank sound comes out. They mix up heavy metal, ska, jazz and even Rush to create a potent, danceable mix of sounds. "Everyone's kind of different. I have a total heavy metal background and some punk, but I'd say there's a lot of jazz in the stuff," Sullivan says.

Ruskabank's debut CD is titled "This Took Some Time", and can be purchased along with other band merchandise through their web site. A review in the Kansas State Collegian raves, "Although many bands out there focus on the negative aspects of life, Ruskabank just lets the music flow and has a good time doing it."
