Q is:
History In the summer of 1998, drummer Mark Axmann responded to an ad in the Pitch Weekly and recommended his former Mommymaker bandmate, Cody Brown to play bass. From October of 1998 to March of 2000, Q played over 20 shows in Kansas City, Lawrence, and Warrensburg with a wide variety of bands, including Aerialuxe, Avondale, Canvas, The Electrophonic Foundation, Gunfighter, Hollis, Honeyspoon, Kindir (the band formerly known as Starsky), Mustard Couch, Proudentall, Saturn 138, Shudderbug, Space Is Kind, Takedown, Thulium, Two Player Option, The Velvet Freeze, and Unified One. Songs from “Heads” also received radio airplay on the old Lazer (KLZR 105.9 FM), V-100 (KDVV 100.3), null set net radio, and other stations in Kansas. Unfortunately, “Anonymous” was just starting to receive regular airplay on KLZR immediately before the dreaded format change. Early in 2000, Q was nominated for a Klammie in the Best New Band category with Aerialuxe, the Hillary Step, Resident Clark, and the award winners, the Cross Country Felons. Unfortunately, creative and personal differences had been building throughout most of this otherwise prosperous time for the band, and the rewards simply weren’t enough to justify staying together after their March 24th Hurricane show with hometown heroes Gunfighter (a re-vamped version of Molly McGuire) and Hollis (most of the members from Sacrifice Isaac). By another huge stroke of good fortune, current drummer Doug Stormont (formerly of The Switch) joined the band almost immediately afterward. A fresh, new outlook and the new, more melodic, and more dynamic material gave Q exciting potential again.
