Even a thriving metropolis known as a music haven has its struggles with getting the word out about original music. A teen-ager in Kansas City, Danielle Nelsen, felt the frustration many Tulsans feel, saying to herself, "There's so much good music here and in Lawrence (Kan.), but no one seems to know about it."

She decided to create a place where the mildly curious could find out more about the scene -- a meta-site that would provide links to web pages of every possible Kansas City band. The Zone (http://www.kcmusic.simplenet.com/) offers more than a dozen categories: a listing of bands with bios and some with photos; a local music forum; an e-mailing list; lists of booking agencies and recording studios; interviews; reviews; and Nelsen's electronic 'zine, which provides fresh news and updates to the Web page. Tune in and see what's going on in a frustrated fellow Midwestern 'burg.

Tulsa music has a similar site, the Local Band Page. It provides links to many local bands, but it looks like it hasn't been updated in months.
